Installation Instructions
Hinges and Pins
Your hinge will have either a regular pin or a non-removable pin. A non-removable pin can still be removed by taking out the set screw first, which is located on the hinge barrel.
⚠️ Note: The No Knock Pin works with all hinges except the RP (Rivet Pin) hinge, which cannot be removed.
Removing Hinge Pins
The hinge pin connects the two leaves of the hinge, which are screwed into the door and door frame to hold them together and allow the door to swing.
Regular Pin Hinges:
You will see a button on the top of the barrel. Some hinges also have a button on both the top and bottom.
Take a nail or punch, place the point into the bottom hole and tap up with a hammer until the pin comes out of the top.
Non-Removable Pin Hinges:
These have a set screw located on the barrel.
Loosen (do not remove) the set screw.
Take a nail or punch and tap the pin upward with a hammer until it
comes out the top.
Discard the original pin and replace it with the No Knock Pin, pushing the 4-inch leg down into the top of the barrel. Leave the black pin cover visible at the top on the outside. Then install the long 2 ½ inch screw (included) by replacing one of the screws from the hinge from a hole farthest from the hinge barrel and replace it with the long 2 ½ screw and screw it into the door frame and do the same to the other hinge.
Double Door Installation
For double doors, repeat the steps above on the opposite door. Once both No Knock Pins are in place:
Lay the 2×4 bar flat across the holders of the two pins.
Tighten the bar by swinging the pins inward toward each other.
Position the bar so the ends extend about 2 inches past the side trim, keeping the pins aligned straight out from the door.
Now the doors are locked.
Single Door Installation
For single doors, follow the same steps above to replace one hinge pin with the No Knock Pin. Then:
Measure down from the top of the door to locate where the opposite hinge will be attached on the frame.
Mark this location. Take the hinge provided, open it, and hold the straight leaf while positioning the bent leaf on the frame. The barrel should bend away from the door around the corner to the outside so it does not interfere with closing.
Mark the screw holes, then close the door to ensure it shuts properly and the hinge is level with the other hinge.
Drill a small pilot hole (or tap in a nail) to start the screw. Use the screws provided to secure the hinge to the frame. Install one screw first, then test alignment before fully fastening.
Insert the longer screws into the two holes farthest from the pin barrel for maximum strength.
Z Bracket and Bar Attachment
Attach the z bracket to the 2×4 wooden bar (bar not included) by laying the bar flat across the 2 no knock pins and locate the spot at one end on the
bottom of the bar to attach the Z bracket. Mark the screw hole and then screw the Z
bracket to the bottom of the bar in the center with the open end facing toward the
middle and the hinge pin will go in between the wooden bar and the bracket which allows the bar to hang on the pin to the side when not in use. A way to store the bar when not in use and still have a quick and easy to lock.
Selecting a 2×4 Bar
Purchase an untreated 2×4 stud from your local home improvement store.
Check both sides to ensure it is perfectly straight.
Cut the board so it extends about 2 inches past the outside of the side trim on both sides of the door.
Example: If the door measurement is 41 inches, cut the board to 45 inches.
Many stores will cut the board for free, saving you time and money.
Don’t forget to finish the board with stain or paint if desired.
